We just got back from being on the road for 13 days straight! I headed out for WPPI and took Brandi and Max with me. We drove 1500 miles to Vegas, and on the way back visited Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon, Roswell, the Meteor Crater, and also got stuck in 18″ of snow, the most I’d ever seen in my entire life. The Grand Canyon made me feel super freaking small, and definitely makes me want to go back and go hiking through the Canyon itself.
Check out a few of my favorites from the trip below. I’m making a little movie with the rest of the images along with some of the time-lapses of the falling snow. I’ll post that up when its finished!
Looking West over El Morro National Park.
Brandi and Max on our hike up Bandera Crater, El Morro National Park.
Hands down, the most snow we’ve ever seen in our lives, especially at once!
At this point Max decided he didn’t want to walk anymore, so 3/4th’s of the way up the crater we turned around.
The drive out to Vegas, somewhere in New Mexico.
Lake Mead, Nevada.
Brandi and Max at the Hoover Dam.
Dam big dam.
Looking down dam big Hoover dam.
AMAZING. God is so great to give us such beautiful things.
Futile pano attempt.
Max making sure no Indians are coming.
Max chillin in the snow. This was actually the night after a huge snow storm that dumped about 18″ of snow. It covered 6000 feet and up which made for some amazing snow covered Canyon shots.
This is one of my super favs, just outside of Flagstaff, Arizona.
Meteor Crater panorama. Meteor City, Arizona.
View from Meteor City, looking West towards Flagstaff. The sky is SO blue, as the night before that huge storm had come through and wiped the skies clean. It’s party why we decided to strand ourselves at the Grand Lodge in Tusayan, 2 miles from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
This is the East side of El Morro National Park. El Morro means “The Badlands” because of the massive fields of sharp lava rocks.
View looking Southwest towards Big Bend National Forest from Highway 285.
There are several small Ghost Towns located off of Highway 285. You pass through 2 of them as you travel south from I-40 heading towards Roswell. Encino was a town built in the late 1800′s at the time of the steam engine. Vaughn is barely surviving, and only because its a junction point for 54 and 60. After you pass over the New Mexico, Texas state line you run into Orla, TX, where this image was shot. This town freaking creeped me out. Nobody around, like everyone just left.
Here’s a time lapse of a starry night in the Grand Canyon. If I had it to do over again, I would have opted for longer exposures, but 329 30 second exposures toasted both batteries on my 7D.
The morning after the wedding, alarms went off at 5:30 A.M. to catch the sunrise at 6:30; it was time for Charline and Rick’s Day After session at the Iberostar Resort. These sessions are my favorite because it’s a way for the bride and groom to just let everything go. Charline and Rick were such troopers too, as the water temp had to have been in the 60′s. You can see a few reactions from Rick in the photos below, evidence of just how cold that water really was.
Wow what a super rad trip! Last week we flew out to shoot Charline and Rick’s wedding in Montego Bay, Jamaica. This was the third wedding I’ve shot on the island and every time I go, I never want to come back! This time though I took Brandi with me so we had a little time to spend after the work was done. Charline and Rick, thank you so very much for making us feel so comfortable! Good people. Good food. Good times.
The wedding was held at a private residence called Jamaica Columns, located at the top of the mountain with views overlooking the beach and ocean. Definitely a prime spot for a wedding. I’ve got a lot of photos that I want to post, so this will be broken into two parts. Part 1 is below with the wedding, and part 2 will be my favorites from their Day After session at the Iberostar Resort. That’s the juicy stuff! Those images will be posted up at midnight tonight.
Also, don’t forget to check out Charline and Rick’s custom wedding website. You’ll be able to access all the images from the posts, as well as links to purchase images through our proofing partners. TheĀ ”Day After” images will also become available at midnight tonight on their site below.
Lovely set of images. I particularly like your use of backlighting in the last one, and how you didn’t shy away from a little digital noise to capture a timeless moment.
My little brother got married this weekend! Their wedding was held in our hometown of Santa Fe, TX. It’s crazy to see time flying by so fast! It seems like just yesterday we were riding our bikes to the pond to go fishing. Now we’re all married and we have kids.
This weekend Brandi and I hung out with Charline and Rick in New Orleans for their engagement session. It was HOT! And so were they so with the two together it was “fry your brain” hot. We mucked through the heat though and got some really sweet shots!
I didn’t shoot much of the night life of New Orleans but I wish I’d had. It’s so unique, and we’ll definitely be going back!
We started at the botanical gardens…
…got to hang out on the trolley….
…and finished the day on the riverfront.
SO many great shots! Here’s a slideshow with a few more of my favorites! Charline and Rick, Brandi and I had a blast! We can’t wait to see you guys in Jamaica for the wedding in December! Awesome!
